What drives us

Insects play a vital role in biodiversity and food security, acting as key contributors to ecosystem stability and agricultural productivity.

Beyond pollination, insects contribute significantly to soil health and nutrient cycling.

In Uganda, insects and their habitats are being destroyed due to several human-induced and environmental factors. These threats are causing a decline in pollinator populations and disrupting ecosystems, ultimately affecting biodiversity and food security.

Our Work

We are dedicated to protecting insects and their natural habitats in Uganda. We have three key program areas.

We actively work to protect and restore natural habitats that support pollinator populations.

We work to raise awareness about the importance of pollinators in our ecosystem.

Our research teams conduct field studies to assess the status of pollinators in Uganda

Pesticide and Chemical Use

The widespread use of pesticides and herbicides in Uganda’s agriculture is harming insect populations. Farmers often use chemical pesticides to control pests, but these substances also kill beneficial insects, including pollinators and natural predators of harmful pests. Neonicotinoids and other harmful chemicals disrupt insect reproduction, foraging behavior, and immune systems, leading to declining populations of bees, beetles, and butterflies.
